Behind or ahead of schedule? A little from column A, a little from column B
Hey there pals!
Coming hot off the back of a weekend where my eldest and I watched all of The Lord of the Rings (Return of the King we watched at the cinema which was epic!), I’m back with a project update!
Last week I set out some goals for the next couple of weeks. By now, I was supposed to have pages 1-4 inked, scanned with flat colours with the aim of doing the same to pages 5-8 this week.
I got the pages inked and scanned but I’m only just starting on flat colours. So I’m a bit behind on that regard.
That said, I’ve already inked and scanned pages 5 and 6 so they’ll be getting the flat colour treatment in the next day or so, leaving me with just pages 7 and 8 to do.
Actually, I started inking page 8 last night (above) and I’m about halfway done so all in all, I’m actually not doing too badly. Not exactly to schedule but I’m still on track. I just need to make sure this week I keep on top of my shit and not fall behind now I’m starting to gain a little ground.
Colour flatting isn’t a job I particularly enjoy but I know from previous projects, it’ll help massively as I move into the final colour phase, so it’s important to get done. Plus, it doesn’t require my full mental capacities to do so I can literally do it with a film on in the background.
My main goal this week is to reach my original goal set last week. First 8 pages ready for final colours. Anything I can do on top of that is a happy bonus.
Alongside comic-making, life, work, etc, I’ve managed to grab a little bit of downtime too so just wanted to share a few things I watched this weekend.
This video over on Proko’s channel goes a long way to explain why colour has always confused the living hell out of me:
And I’ve been getting a bit lost in comics documentaries on YouTube, specifically ones about Jack Kirby and the Fantastic Four:
Off the back of these, I’ve taken a put on the Marvel/Penguin FF collection to give the early stuff a read-through. I’m not much of a “Big two” reader but what I’ve read of the FF over the years, I’ve enjoyed so this one seems like a safe bet.
Lastly, I watched this one again recently on Darwyn Cooke:
I’m a sucker for a nice art style and Cooke’s style is right up my street so I’ve taken another punt on his book “The New Frontier”.
Only problem now is my TBR pile is just getting bigger faster than I can get through it. Suppose it’s better than not having anything to read!
Right, until next week pals!
