Splorers notes / 16.02.2026
A rather large update...
Hi pals,
This is going to be another fairly quick update, at least on the comics front.
Time got away from me last week and I had one of those weeks where I struggled with just one panel. It’s the opening panel of the next part of Splorers, an establishing shot in a desert environment, and I wanted to try get a different feel than a straight-up daytime shot so I went for a sort of golden hour evening to play with oranges and purples.
It took me a few tries to get here and it’s one of those things I could keep tinkering with ‘till the cows come home so I got to this point and invoked Jake Parker’s mantra “Finished is better than perfect”.
So as I write this, I’ve still got a bit of page 2 to finish and all of page 3, but that page is a large single panel so should be fairly easy to get done.
Page 4 is a scene shift and I’ve got another specific time of day and lighting effects in mind so that might take some mucking about to get right so my goal for this week is to finish pages 2, 3 and 4 entirely.
I’ll set some more goals going forward on my next update. Which brings me to a bit change…
I’m moving these updates to Patreon
I mentioned back in January that I was considering moving these updates off of Substack and I honestly didn’t plan on moving so soon but I figured now would be a good time to do it which I had a relatively small number of posts to move across there.
The posts here will remain, I will keep my account open as I still want to read and support the work of creators I subscribe to here but I just want to set up my home elsewhere for posting.
Apparently there is a way to import subscribers over there but I’m yet to figure that out so for now I’ll just ask that if you like receiving my updates, I’d really appreciate it if you subscribed over there.
So, as far as Substack is concerned, this is farewell. I hope to see you in another interweb form…
